I first started taking Pilates classes in 2014 and was instantly impressed at how much it worked the entire body, in a truly holistic way. After years of office life, sitting at a desk for long stressful hours, I quickly began to appreciate the immense impact Pilates could have on posture, strength and mental well-being. It did not take long at all for me to be enticed into becoming a Pilates Instructor myself.
I had made a big career change in 2013, away from Chartered Accountancy, into teaching an equally holistic method of swimming (the Shaw Method) and felt this would perfectly complement my swimming teaching.
Pilates has not only helped me address the postural issues I’d built up through years of desk work, but also hugely improved my performance in the sports I enjoy – from swimming to running to tennis. It’s the perfect complement to life in general and gives the body a powerful core base from which to execute all movement.
I first qualified, in 2016, to teach Mat Pilates, through BASI (Body Arts Science International). I look back and am extremely pleased that I did this, as it gave me a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of Pilates. Realising the broad spectrum of exercises that could then be added on the equipment, I embarked on the BASI Comprehensive Teacher Training Course, qualifying in 2017.
I now teach from my lovely home studio in Woking, Surrey, alongside teaching mat classes online.
